Duales System

The campaign of “Duales System” was conducted among North German primary schools with the aim of explaining to children in a playful manner, the function of recycling products with the “green point”. The agency Euro RSCG commissioned me to make colourful, cartoon like costumes of everyday products such as cornflakes, orange juice and toothpaste. The task was not to replicate actual brands but rather to infuse the costumes with a comic character that would appeal to children.
For the tube of toothpaste I used a palette of mint tones whilst for the cornflakes I used the typical red and white combination from Kellogs. Through interactive and educational games, the actors wearing the costumes explained the meaning of the “green point”. The aim of the campaign was that the characters and games should stick in the minds of the children, for example when brushing their teeth.
As the campaign lasted over several months, the costumes had to be durable and made to withstand rigorous treatment. It is easy to imagine the lively and colourful scenes on the school playgrounds as the children came face to face with a life size bottle of orange juice!

For another large scale campaign by the agency Euro RSCG, on behalf of the work group Duales System (ARGE) I designed and created 20 “green men”. In the year 2000, twenty green aliens from the planet EGRA (AGRE in reverse) invaded Hamburg´s most popular street festivals the “Alstervergnügen” and the “ Hafengeburtsag”. The bizarre but “cute” costumes were specially moulded from foam and covered with green, hair like fabric. These unusual creatures delighted and amused the visitors of the street festivals and had no trouble distributing thousands of flyers for Duales Systems.
